Xbox 360 Project Gotham 4 : Bikes, Weather, DVD9

Keepn em honest here on 360Wire - something had to be said. Apparently, over at some other site, David Karraker from Sony took a stab at the 9Gig DVD format the Xbox360 uses for games. “We took a lot of heat at launch for including Blu-ray in PS3. Now it looks like that investment is being justified. At 50GB storage capacity, Blu-ray gives the PS3 plenty of headroom for developers to fully realize their visions well into the future.”

Ben from Bizarre Creations posted on their own forums:
“You won’t see different times of day per city because this involves recreating all the textures again (one for day and one for night). Whilst this wasn’t a problem for our dev team, it was a problem fitting all this data onto a single DVD.”
At first it sounds like cause for a Sony Fanboy BBQ, that is untill I dug a little deeper and found a clarification at bizarrecreations.com :

“DVD size is absolutely not a factor that we consider when designing our games… and PGR4 is no exception. DVD9 gives us more than we need to create a fabulous experience for you guys.” “We’ve never had to cut content to fit on the disc, and we probably never will.”

Now, if you haven’t been living under a rock the last few weeks, you’re probably aware PGR4 is going to include Motorcycles to help you rack up them kudos points. What I wasn’t aware of was that this iteration in the series will include 10 different weather effects on any given track. From a light rain setting to a lightning storm setting, looks as if DVD9 is kicking some serious Motorstorm tail. Snow or ice effects on the Nurburgring anyone??
