Grand Theft Auto 4 - 2008
Sorry for the bad news, but Take Two told their investors on a conference call yesterday that GTA4 won’t be released until next year. Sighting quality issues, Rockstar seems to think this one needs more time in the oven, and with the holiday line-up so overcrowded it may work in their favor to hold off on the release a few months. Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Assasin’s Creed, Army of Two, Blue Dragon, the list of heavy holiday comp is only getting bigger, and I’m having a hard time deciding what to buy, Rockstar just made things easier.

**UPDATE** - Analyst Michael Pachter has reason to believe the PS3 version is causing the holdup. “We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognise how far away from completion the game truly was until recently,” said Pachter. “We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favour competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version,” he added.
Thanks again Sony

I’ve been reading about this saga for a couple of days now. Really can’t get over these ‘contractual obligations’ to Sony.
If the 360 version is good to go, then get it bloody released!! In the end, it’s not just 360 gamers who will suffer* this Christmas, but Rockstar too.
Poor show.
*probably not, given the huge number of shit hot titles heading our way before the years done. The 10/10 review of Bioshock in OXM has shot it to the top of my most wanted list.
