Xbox 360 Hard Drive Required?

“DVD9 gives us more than we need to create a fabulous experience for you guys.” “We’ve never had to cut content to fit on the disc, and we probably never will.” <--- Bizarre Creations
Recently Gamepro had a chat with Microsoft concerning the “Hard Drive Required” sticker surfacing around teh internets. “”Every game will work with every Xbox 360 system,” “But just like some games will require you to have a Memory Unit to save games, some games will require you to have a Hard Drive to experience them.”

I’m trying to look at this with 2 schools of thought in mind. One says the core system buyers are getting screwed because of a design flaw, and I ask myself why a 3rd party USB option can’t be used. The other side says the potential here for a few hardcore titles is insane, but still I question Microsoft’s harddrive prices. I bought a core system and had to pay an extra $100 American for a 20G hard drive already, $180 for 120G is crazy! Consider cheap hardware prices these days. A quick Google found a 200Gig USB external drive at $70! They want more than $100 more for 80 gigs less space!!
The loading times and storage space for games make this move an important one, but I’m not sure we as a community are in for a good time. Unless Microsoft can loosen their grip on the certification process and end their proprietary hard drive monopoly, we are all looking at an expensive 2008.

You do know they are 2.5-inch laptop/notebook harddrives, right? If you can find a 120GB notebook HD for that price and factor in the casing/enclosure for USD $2/30 more, then we can talk …
