Microsoft asks for Xbox 360 ‘Crackdown 2′ - Real Time Worlds says no

In an interview with Dundonian developers Real Time Worlds, it’s been revealed that Microsoft have approached them to request a sequel to the smash hit Crackdown.Sadly though, the request was knocked back with producer Phil Wilson saying “Microsoft were a little late in stepping up to the plate to ask for Crackdown 2, and by then we had already started working on bigger, better things”.
I personally find this news incredibly disturbing. The original Crackdown is my favorite title on the 360 since launch and if any game deserves a sequel it’s Crackdown - more so than Gear of War I’d wager.
Not all is lost though. Real Time Worlds are currently working on another crime based shooter ‘APB’ which will have more of a MMO feel to it. There’s also news they are working on a top secret project for release in 2009 - though we have no idea what that might be.
Crackdown 2 may well see the light of day, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing it until at least 2009 at the earliest. Perhaps the second in the series should be reserved as a launch title for Microsoft’s ‘next’ Xbox.

I agree with you on this game needing a sequel. I know it will be tough going into GTA4, stealing cars and killing people will seem like 1/2 the experience if I can’t pick up the car or jump over buildings, etc. The game engine itself was 5 stars, play control still unparalleled as of this morning. If they could transfer the middleware over to another IP I would be content, sandbox Halo anyone?? Wouldn’t take much to base a game off one of the Eric Nylund books……

[…] Microsoft did take steps earlier in the year to attempt to secure a Crackdown 2, this however was turned down by the studio because they were too busy with APB (All Points Bulletin). Microsoft were just too late to the table. […]
