Sega classic Burning Rangers set to make next-gen return?

If like me you were one of the few people who actually bought a Sega Saturn back in the 90’s (£499!! - who said consoles used to be cheap?), you probably hold Sonic Team’s Burning Rangers dear to your heart.
Released in 1998 and towards the end of the Saturn’s life-span, Burning Rangers put you in the shoes of Chris Partn, Lead Pheonix, Shou Amabane, Big Landman and who could forget the lovely Tillis. In it’s most basic form, Burning Rangers put you in charge of this group who’s job it was to rid the space station of fire once and for all - it was a race against time really, in much the same way that NiGHTS was recognised as a racing title, rather than a traditional platformer.
Although Burning Rangers was a reasonable attempt at squeezing every last bit of juice from the Saturn’s under-performing chip-set, it still fell short of what Sony’s Playstation was capable of - in a game full of fire and water, transparencies were key to pushing the effect and we all know how badly the Saturn coped with these. For the most part, the raging infernos you encountered resembled a mass of orange ‘things’ bounding towards you.
At the moment, there is no information available on Burning Rangers 2 - hell, we don’t even know if it’s going to be a totally new sequel or just a remake of the original. Rumours seem to suggest an unveiling at E3 2008 in the summer, if that proves true we could be looking at a festive release this year. Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are most likley - but with Wii owners currently enjoying the newly refreshed NiGHTS, it’s certainly possible it may be a Wii exclusive.
Though I’d love to see a sequel to this being released, I just wish SEGA would better spend the time doing a new Daytona USA.
We’ve asked SEGA Europe for clarification so fingers crossed they come through with some good news for us age old SEGA fans.

Man i had that game. It was a great game for its time. I think it was the last game to come out that I bought for the Saturn before moving over to my Dreamcast.
