Xbox 360’s Aliens game looking bloody brilliant

‘Aliens : Colonial Marines’ is coming to the next-gen platforms, but it’s going to be a bit of a fair old wait until it’s 2009 release. Plenty of time then for us to salivate over every little piece of information and drool over some rather glossy looking screenshots.

Developed by FPS veterans Gearbox Studios, and published by SEGA - ‘Aliens : Colonial Marines’ is built on the almost industry standard Unreal Engine 3. This of course means it’s all looking rather lovely so far, but then again - so did Turok and look what happened there!

The April issue of UK Official Xbox Magazine has an exclusive preview covering 6 pages, most of which are screenshots so information on the title is still a tad thing on the ground. What’s been confirmed so far is there will be co-operative play available in the single player missions and for up to 4 players over Live!, it’s team based in a similar way to that of Blacksite Area 52.

The look of the game is incredibly authentic - OXM carries comparison shots from both the game, and the original films and it’s true - they do bare more than a striking resemblance. Art Director, Brian Cozzens said “it’s amazing what we’ve been able to do with the graphics.” “We recreated the Sulaco’s drop ship hangar and we’ve actually added more assets in there than the movie had”.

Some of the screenshots remind me somewhat of F.E.A.R, perhaps the colour schemes used in some of the interior environments could do with a bit of messing with - but certainly the Aliens and Face-huggers themselves look nothing short of astounding. No word on appearances by either Ripley, nor Bishop - we can but hope.
We’d love to publish some scans from the mag but that would be just wrong - so get out to your local WHSmith and bag yourself a copy, you can throw away the demo disk - it’s crud as usual.

The very first exclusive with a whole lot more info was published in gameinformer magazine over a month ago.

  2. Hamad Says:

Last I checked, in Obsidian Entertainment Website (KOTR2, NeverWinter Nights 2), they were the developers of this game.

@ Hamad, fraid’ I’ve checked several sources and almost all of them, including strategy informer and Kotaku state that it’s Gearbox whom are developing the game.

They’re the guys behind such games as The Chronicles of Riddick, the brothers in arms series and the original counter strike and conterstrike - condition zero.
*infact if you head to gearbox’s site: http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/index.php?p=games
they actually list Aliens “in development”*

With such experience especially in multiplayer death match and team games, this is definitely one to watch.

Until then, check those targets and stay frosty marines…

Following further looking into it, it seems it will be a joint venture of both obsidian and gearbox, see the link below (the logo’s for both companies are there)

I have seen the screenshots and this and it looks amazing. Sadly it looks like we won’t be getting our hands on it until some point in 2009.
