Xbox Live Arcade Dominates

With a size limit increase to 350MB - Xbox Live Arcade is flexing some digital muscle, and clearly at the head of the pack. With the XNA development kits having gone out Dec 2007, we are about to see a flood of independent titles on top of some real AAA games. When asked about the community pipeline Microsoft has in the works, David Edery, Live Arcade Zahr, seemed to think we were looking ok in a marketplace now including PSN and WiiWare:
“To some extent it will certainly help us have more innovative content than either of them, just by definition. With all this random stuff coming from the community, every once in a while there’s going to be a real gem in there that you just couldn’t have found otherwise, it wouldn’t have found its way on to a console,”

Well, someone seems confident. I would too with news of Epic games acquiring Chair, developer of Unreal powered Undertow. Things could be worse for indy developers - think about it. Even if Microsoft uses their games as “filler” in between major releases like Street Fighter HD Remix or the integrated games Lionhead has planned for Fable 2, think of the potential exposure!! These types of steps by Microsoft are really starting to pay off - and we are reaping the benefits me thinks.
